Bridges Program of Ardmore, Inc

Offering Adult Day Services and Vocational Development

The Bridges program is designed to provide purposeful day activities and supports to individuals with Developmental Disabilities.

This is accomplished by developing a “menu” of activities from which participants can choose to participate in skill reinforcement activities, group activities, exercise groups, reading a book, doing puzzles, working with a computer, and therapeutic recreation/leisure activities may also be available.

The program strives to provide activities that incorporate practical life experiences, which are person centered and supported by the participant's ISP Plans. The program was developed around the “small" group model of approximately 6-12 participants and 1-2 facilitators, depending on the need of the group.

The Bridges program also works cooperatively with the University of Akron's College for Nursing and with their School of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. Nursing students visit one time a week and run a "well-check" clinic and a health education class. The speech and language students are completing their masters and while with us they assist with program activities and assist with enhancing communication needs of our participants.

The Bridges Program can also be your first step to community employment! Through the Bridges Program individuals interested/identified for community employment can begin to build skills necessary for successful employment. Individuals seeking employment will work on developing or improving vocational skills like: attendance, productivity, appearance, punctuality, attitude/interaction/cooperation and safety. Once these skills are learned they will work with our Vocational Development Department staff to identify, explore and obtain employment.
